Your Library: Past, Present, and Future
In 1893, Annie Glidden had a vision for her community. She believed a circulating library in DeKalb would strengthen the bonds between neighbors, inspire residents to improve their lives through education, and aid in the growth of her beloved town.
When the current Haish Memorial Library building opened in 1930, Annie Glidden’s vision was fully realized. Model Ts rumbled over cobblestone streets and families gathered around radios to hear the news. The population was 8,000.
In the 83 years since, DeKalb has grown by over 500%, but our beautiful building has remained the same. To continue our mission, to meet the needs of all DeKalb residents, and to embrace the future, we must expand.
